A 131-year old house moved to save it from a new interchange on US Highway 151 near Sun Prairie, WI. I felt it worked better as a black & white.

Did not realize it was brick at first myself. Looking at that, knowing now it is brick, you would think that all the movement would really fuck up all the joints. Looks like it's a nice house. After sitting empty for years and now being moved, I wonder exactly how much it would cost to get it back in living order?

Well, Veridian Homes (builder building the subdivision) said they spent $220,000 to move it. Bear in mind that it moved a few hundred feet, probably not even a half mile.

Because it's on some national list (landmark, historic place, whatever) and the highway that was going to eat it is a U.S. Highway, the Wisconsin DOT helped the builder secure a $187,000 federal grant.

Veridian says they're going to rehab it and convert it for "commercial and community" space that will be the "centerpiece" of the subdivision. Bah. Make it a HOUSE again!
